In Design, Interior Design

For any interior designer, having different styles of projects to work on is the ideal scenario. But I sometimes feel so lucky when a trend comes along, which also appeals to my personal taste too. In today’s blog I will touch on a few bohemian decor ideas.

The Bohemian style is big news in interiors once again and for me, it evokes joyful memories.

Bought up in a bohemian family, I had an unconventional childhood. We travelled a great deal visiting exotic, warm and colourful countries.

I recall at the age of eighteen, exploring the markets of Quito in Ecuador. I was captivated. Not only by the beauty of the exotic fruits spread on the ground but also of the women who sold them.

I remember the spectacular embroidery in their red, green and yellow skirts. Their woven straw and felt hats and multicoloured embellished shawls draped on their shoulders. A firework display of colours!

So, this is where my passion for colours, handicrafts and fabrics came from. All of this added to my artistic sensibility, lead me to capture the ‘bohemian style’.

1. Decorative Lighting

Bohemian style lamps are as beautiful lights off, as lights on. Take inspiration from these styles (above). Fringed with fabric, (Liberty London) beaded and wooden engraved (please contact us if you are interested in purchasing these @ D&K Interiors).  Keep lighting low light and mood-enhancing. Now lie back and relax…

2. Tactile Textures and Florals

There is nothing that captures this mood more than lying around on beautiful soft textures. It’s a laid-back vibe. For a modern boho style bedroom, cushions should be colourful and tactile. Floral, fringing & texture lead the way here from designers Verloop and Christian Lacroix.

3. Artisan Style Objects

Touches of decorative objects in a bedroom will help to pull the Bohemian look together. Source old paintings from flea markets to hang on walls or source which have a hand-painted antique design like these boxes (D&K Interiors). I love these natural mats (D&K Interiors). Perfect to place under a mirror on a dressing table.

4. Pouffes & Rugs

Swap your bed-side tables for a couple of floral pouffes. Still strong enough to hold the weight of a lamp-  it’s a wonderful way to add boho pattern into your bedroom. I love the contrast of this green and orange design (above) from Liberty London. The antique look is perfectly balanced in this deep pink rug (above) (D&K Interiors). Alternatively, go natural with this rug (D&K Interiors).

5. Boho Luxe Fabrics

No-one does casual glam (Boho Luxe) fabrics like Missoni. This year sees yet another 70’s revival in fashion and interiors. And Missoni still nails this look year after year. Their beautifully knitted and fringing home collections simply define Boho Luxe. Add one of their knitted throws at the bottom of the bed. Job done.

I am so happy to share my bedroom bohemian décor ideas with you all, I hope you feel inspired. Now…where is my Kaftan? 😉
