Where to stay for the Cannes Film Festival?
It’s the Cannes film festival and the biggest and brightest stars of the film world have descended into town. For us in the office, it’s just a normal week but it’s hard not to sense the buzz of excitement in the air. On my way to work, I spot paparazzi ladders lining the croisette. And camera crews and reporters are competing for spots in the streets – hoping to grab quick interviews.
‘Fashion changes but style endures’
Oscar-winning couple Penelope Cruz and husband Javier Bardem kicked off the celebrations this year at opening night with their thriller ‘Everybody knows’. I love both those actors so I will look forward to seeing it when it is released. I imagine the cameras from the paparazzi pen will be on the lookout for the star-studded jury more than ever this year. It includes Oscar-winner and jury president; Cate Blanchett, filmmaker Ava DuVernay, Kristen Steward, Léa Seydoux and filmmaker Denis Villeneuve. I must say, on a personal note, it’s great to see so many women on this year’s jury, I wonder which film they will choose for this year’s prestigious Palme d’Or?
But where do the stars of the silver screen choose to spend their precious downtime during the festival? With so many historic and grand hotels for the stars to choose from, they certainly have rich pickings. Rich, they may be, but you can’t buy style. Like Coco Chanel once said ‘Fashion changes but style endures.’ With this quote in mind, it leads me nicely to my first hotel of choice for this years A-list, Le Majestic.

My Top Stylish Stays in Cannes
Centre stage of the Croisette, this art deco palace by the sea manages to capture the cinematic glamour of the past. Inside, it’s lobby and corridors are lined with over 2,000 black and white portraits of film legends. Former guests I imagine, and perhaps a more obvious choice for today’s film stars. Constantly revamped it leaves nearby hotels in the shade. Also a Cannes film festival partner, the hotel screens private film screenings in its cinema room. Velvet wing back chairs provide comfortable viewings along with champagne cocktails. Always red carpet ready, the Majestic’s décor still channels its elegant heritage but also captures a modern spirit. This is showcased beautifully in its contemporary choice of chandeliers hanging in the lobby. Simply stunning.

My other hotel of choice (and a likely suggestion from the stars local expert concierge teams) would be The Five Seas hotel. It’s quite the opposite of the Majestic. A small boutique hotel, two steps from the Croisette. It has a discreet anonymous sliding door for its entrance. No grand lobby here. The street door entrance reveals a stylish room with cool modern inviting décor. The color scheme of natural stone, browns and red leather project modern luxury throughout. A compact hotel, which also boasts a rooftop bar & pool, luxury spa and VIP access to a private beach. The hotel describes itself as the ‘best-kept secret in Cannes’ – and perhaps a perfect fit for stars who would prefer to get away from it all.

Unfortunately, I was not able to take pictures of the interior of the hotels for this blog due to tight security during the film festival. I have included links to both these hotels on their titles above. Both are well worth a future visit next time you are in Cannes.
Til’ next time,
Geraldine & Pia xx
